Horndon10k 2106

The Horndon 10k held in conjunction with the Feast and Fayre was organised by a team from the Harriers for the first time this year. Led by Bernie Johnson they are to be congratulated on staging a good event with 330 finishers. But this meant that many Harriers regulars were missing from the race as they had a role in the organisation. However youngsters filled the gap. ex-Thurrock Harrier David Johnson, now based in the North East with Tynebridge Harriers, was an excellent 3rd. Oliver Mann, a 16 year old Horndon student,  pb’d in 8th place with 37.34. His companion from the under 17 squad Joe Logan should be very satisfied with 15th place in 39.29. EAA Eastern Championships

Amber Pullinger Demi Eves Hayley Instance Rhea Starvi Liam Chivers Jessica Whitbread A mass of athletes travelled up to Cambridge University to compete in the EAA Eastern Championships this weekend. The weather stayed dry for the day enabling perfect conditions for the athletes to bring home a wealth of PBS and 18 Eastern championship Medals. U17g Amber Pullinger stormed the 800m with a fantastic time of 2.19.37s taking home a Gold Medal. Lucie Ball gained a PB with her run in the 800m 2.31.92s just missing out on a medal.  Jess Whitbread gained a Silver Medal with a triple jump PB of 10.54m, missing out on the gold by just 3cm’s!, also won a Bronze medal and a PB throw of 24.03m in shot put and a Bronze in the long jump with a jump of 4.91m. Rhea Starvi brought home a Bronze medal in the Javelin with a throw of 21.51m, also jumped 8.94m in the triple jump. U15g Ruby Bridger took home a well deserved Silver medal after a lovely run in the 75m hurdles with a very close time of 11.90s ,she also threw 8.26m in the shot put. The club’s seniors, with the help of a strong bunch of under 17’s notched up a 3rd straight win in the SAL 5 match series. On the ladies side Rebecca Barnard performed heroically all afternoon. She had made the short journey from her university base in Bedford to the Biggleswade venue and proceeded to win the 200B, the 400 hurdles, the 400m and gain top 3 positions in the 100m hurdles and B long jump. On the mens side, Dan George, with nearly 20 years league experience, won the shot and B 110 hurdles and notched up points in hammer and discus. Michael Shortall recorded 3 wins. He performed outstandingly well in both hurdles, won the B long jump. He was also runner up B 200 and triple jump. Outstanding performances of the day were arguably from two of the under 17s. Yinka Sodipo was two tenths of a second outside the club age group record in the 200m with an outstanding win in a time of 22.38. Likewise Nwaeke Nwabude was just 7cms short of the age group long jump record with a 6.57m win. Kendrea Nwaelene had 3 outstanding wins in the sprints and long jump. Essex Schools Championship Thurrock

A massive well done to all the Thurrock Harriers athletes that took part representing Thurrock in the Essex Schools Championship at Melborne Park, Chelmsford last Weekend. As well as gaining PBs and Essex Medals many also reached the Essex and/or National standard, meaning they can wear the Essex Vest. Intermediate Girls – Amber Pullinger gained a Gold Essex Medal in the 1500m with a time of 4.40.51s, gaining the Essex Standard. Kendrea Nwaelene (representing Southend) also gained a Silver Medal after her 200m race also gained Essex Standard with a time of 25.60s. Intermediate Boys-  William Adeyeye not only gained a Gold Essex Medal in the 100m with a PB time of 11.05s, he was also chosen to represent Essex after reaching Essex Standard. Junior Boys- Daniel Ogutuga gained a Bronze Essex Medal and a PB in the 100m with a time of 11.78s. Theo Adesina took home a Silver Essex Medal after his Essex Standard time in the 80m Hurdles of 11.81s. Junior Girls-  Funminiyi Olajide jumped a fantastic PB in the Long Jump, with a jump of 5.55m, enough to gain a Gold Essex Medal enough to wear the Essex Vest and also is well over National Standard.
