Essex XC Relays @ Hockley

At the Essex Cross Country Relays held at Hockley on Saturday Thurrock returned with 2 sets of medals. The mixed senior team took a well deserved Silver. All 4 team members excelled on the 3 mile course – all of them from the under 20 age group. Sam Smith (16.03), Brooke Mensah (20.28), Oliver Mann (16.08) and Gemma Holloway (15.48) saw them finish just 37 seconds behind winners, Orion Harriers. Gemma’s time was the fastest female time in the event. The under 15 boys took bronze. Harry Parker (9.19), Ben Prior (9.18) and Leon Wheeler (8.48) battled hard for the medals. In the same age group the B team were 8th. Henri Willett (10.04), Jamie Mack (9.48) and Finlay Lowe (9.47) were in that team. Again Leon’s time was the fastest in this section. The senior women’s team were a respectable 10th in the 28 teams to finish. Toni Radley (19.23), Victoria Peacock (20.13) and Sue Beck (20.39) can all feel pleased with their efforts especially newcomer Sue. It was good to see the senior men well represented. They fielded two teams that finished 15th and 27th in the 38 teams that finished. British Masters – Sue Lawrence brings home GOLD

Thurrock Harrier Veteran Athlete Sue Lawrence brought home 5 Gold Medals at the British Masters AF Championships in Birmingham this weekend. Sue, one of Thurrock Harriers longest standing members saw off tough competition in order to bring home the Gold medals in Discus, Javelin, shot put, Hammer and weight throw. Theo Adesina to represent England

Thurrock Harriers Athlete Theo Adesina triumphed this weekend at the ESAA national combined events at Exeter where he donned the Essex vest and brought home a Silver Medal! Theo gained a Silver medal with a whopping pentathlon Final PB score of 3184 points!! Now ranking him 2nd in the country! Making him eligible for England selection. The highlight of the day for Theo was the High jump! Theo gained a massive 7cm increase on his PB, jumping 1.85cm, which now ranks him 2nd the country for his age group. Theo also gained a SB in the 800m with a time of 2.15.01s and placed 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 6.42m. Theo now gets to represent England in Ireland. Along with this Theo was part of the U15 Junior Boys who also became the National Team Pentathlon Champions, they also broke the British all time record by over 150 points! Amazing achievement! Not only does Theo have an amazing drive to be the best by putting all he can into his training and competitions, he is well known for his chatty ways and smiley face, brightening up everyone he meets day! Membership News

Notice for both current and prospective new members of our Club All our coaches and other adult helpers at the club are volunteers who give up their time freely and without payment. In return, we expect athletes to be committed to the club. Our training nights are Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. Some groups also train on Sundays (by invitation). We expect all athletes to train regularly throughout the year. Competitions are held at weekends and we expect athletes to compete for the club when asked. Harriers Endurance

Many of the club’s senior records go back decades so it’s a rare thing for a new one to be set. Therefore it’s remarkable that Gemma Holloway has set two this season. At the recent Watford open meeting to break Jessica Judd’s 1500m record with a time of 4:18:46 to reduce the record by 2.8 seconds. Earlier this season the junior international broke the club’s 3k record which had stood for 25 years. At the same meeting Sam Smith demonstrated his renewed confidence with 4m30:01 for a 1500m pb. Other endurance results include Jodi Meredith 4m23:77 and Harry Parker 4m33:12 and an excellent 3k from Alec Finch in 8m:36:16.
