Success at the Masters

Success at the Masters Marek Kowalski’s medal success at the South of England & Eastern Masters indoor championships, Lee Valley, 12th Feb 17 He won gold in the V45M long jump with a pb 5.08m and a silver in the V45M 60m sprint with a time of 8.15 sec Endurance Toby Draper was delighted with his effort in the Test Track 10 at Ford’s Dunton. He was 5th in 61m31s. But not only was that a pb he surpassed his best time at the 10k mark too. Excellent progress from the Corringham teacher. Essex Cross-Country League

The last round of the Essex Cross-Country League was held at Basildon on Saturday and among the plethora of statistics some great performances from the Harriers emerged. Leon Wheeler dominated the under 15 boys’ race to win the individual title for the season and led his quartet to the team title. Henri Willett 11th (pb), Ben Prior 17th and Jamie Mack 27th ensured the winning trophy came to the Harriers. In-form Hayley Instance won the under 15 girls’ race and this consolidated her second place in the age group for the season. Sarah Blockley 18th, Emily Fall 19th, Amy Raven 22nd brought the team to 2nd place on the day and 7th for the season. Senior man, Alec Finch finished 3rd overall for the season. On Saturday he was 7th but his top 10 placings over the season ensured his bronze. His senior men’s team gained promotion from Division 2 by a vast margin but will find it much tougher in division one next year. On Saturday Scott Rice 51st, Keith Willett 80th, Tim Martin 86th, Jon Metcalf 94th, Don Lawless 99th, Gary Rowlatt 139th made up Saturday’s squad. It’s a case of might have been for the 17 men. Essex Success

Sportshall Regional Finals 2017 Well done to all the young athletes who competed in the Sportshall Regional Finals 2017 at Hatfield this weekend (Sun 12 Feb 2017) 50 Young athletes from around the county (10 from Thurrock), took part in a series of competitions over the last couple of months with the goal of being selected to represent Essex in the regionals finals. Those with the best scores were selected into the team. Numerous Thurrock Harrier athletes were eligible for team selection, all put on a red shirt to compete in various events on the day. U13g’s Funmi Adewole, U13b’s Jakub Kowalski, Tosin Olajide, jay Harris, Orhan Corek. U15g’s Ruby Bridger, Lola Omowanile  Funminiyi Olajide. U15b’s , Theo Adesina and Daniel Ogutuga.   It was a great atmosphere, as always! Results at the end of the competition were as follows: Overall Essex scores Under 11 girls 1st place! Under 11 boys 1st place! Under 13 girls 3rd place Under 13 boys 4th place Under 15 girls 2nd place Under 15 boys 4th place Best results in years, the Essex Team are definitely rising up the ranks very quickly, fast on the heels of the regional winners Norfolk! Power Cut causes championships to be abandoned

Due to a area wide power cut on day 2 of the well awaited Essex indoor Championships, many athletes were left disappointed to have had to miss out on winning a medal for their county. Some athletes were fortunate however to get a chance to compete before the centre had to close for health and safety reasons. Natalie le Beau came 2nd in the Senior High Jump with a jump of 1.50m, gaining a Silver Essex Medal, she also came 2nd in the Senior 200m race, time unknown. Reagan Cuthbert placed 3rd in heat for the 200m, time not known but was a PB and he qualified the final. Watch out for this talented newcomer! Maisie Warman placed 1st in Essex, and East of England U15G SP with 9.62m. Gaining a Gold medal and a massive PB and an excellent performance for only her 3rd competition. She has another year in the age group! Leisha Hunt U15g ran the 60m and equalled her PB – gained a Silver Essex Medal in long jump with a PB jump of 5.06m, she qualified for 300m coming 2nd position but unable to complete the final due to the power cut. Endurance In the South Eastern Inter-Counties Schools’ event held at Brands Hatch on Saturday Thurrock had two competitors in the field.
