Endurance report 16th Jan

There were some great Harrier performances at the 4th round of the Essex Cross-Country League, held at the Discovery Centre, Braintree on Saturday. One of them was produced by Leon Wheeler, who won the under 15 boys’ race by some distance. He just needs to finish in the first 3 in the last event, next month, to take the title. He also leads an excellent team which on Saturday finished second, but are odds on favourites to lift the league title next month. On Saturday, Ben Prior ran a strong race to finish 9th. Finnlay Lowe made a welcome return to form by finishing 14th. Henri Willett rounded off a good team performance in 24th place. The other winner on the day was Hayley Instance who won the under 15’s race for girls – a great reward for her hard winter’s training. Emily Fall was 25th in this group. Alec Finch ran a gutsy race to finish 5th in the men’s race. This team are almost certain of promotion from Division Two. Sam Smith ran grittily to finish 23rd while Scott Rice had his best race of the season in 43rd place. Returning from injury Keith Willett had a very good outing in 69th.
