SAL Thurrock

This weekend Thurrock stadium welcomed Barnet & District, Woodford Green & Essex Ladies, Serpentine and Mornington on Saturday for the second Senior Athletics League. Thurrock came first overall again with total points of 348, which is a fantastic achievement and many senior athletes gained new SBs & PBs throughout the day aswell as the sought after points. Thanks to all of the family and friends who came out to support the athletes efforts and coaches and committee members are very proud of the hard work they put in. Essex County Championships

Last weekend, Melbourne Park in Chelmsford hosted the Essex County Championships, spread over two days many athletes competed against each other to gain an Essex medal. A total of 27 Essex Medals (5 Gold, 13 silver and 9 bronze) were taken back to Thurrock as well as many PBs and SBs. U15b Theo Adesina brought home 6 of the Essex Medals, two Gold medals, one in the high jump with a winning jump of 1.75m, the other in the Shot Put with a throw of 11.35m and three Silver Medals, in the 300m with a time of 39.30s, the Long Jump with a jump of 6.16m and the 80m Hurdles with a PB time of 11.71s. U15g Lola Omowanile brought home a Silver medal in the Shot Put with a 9.23m throw. Hayley Instance not only gained a PB but a Bronze medal in the 800m with a time of 2.23.78s and another bronze in the 1500m with a time of 4.57.27s. U20m Nweike Nwabude won a Silver medal in the Long Jump with a 6.44m jump, Yinka Sodipo also bought home a Silver in the 200m with a PB time of 22.19s, Joe Winn took home a Silver Medal in the High Jump, with a jump of 1.85m. Essex County Combined Events Championships Thurrock

On Bank Holiday Monday, Thurrock Harriers hosted the Annual Essex County Multi Events Championship. Four Essex Medals, 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze and many Personal and seasons Bests were brought home by the Thurrock Athlete’s on the day. All at Thurrock are very proud of the athletes and their efforts.   Under 17 M Charlie Splarn gained a Silver Essex Medal as well as 3 Pbs on the day. Long Jump 5.05m SB, 200m 25.60s SB, Discus 24.60m PB, as well as a PB in the 1500m and Pent score PB. Under 17W Jess Whitbread missed out on a medal but took home 2PBs, jumping 1.37m in the High jump and 4.99m in the Long Jump, with a SB in Shot put. Under 15B Theo Adesina totally deserved the Gold Essex Medal and gained 2 PBs, with a 6.45m jump in Long Jump and an outdoor Pent PB with a score of 2793, Placing him No1 in the UK for his age group! Daniel Ogutuga also brought home 4 PB’s winning the Essex Bronze Medal, 80m hurdles 14.2s PB, 9.85m shot put PB, 5.96m Long Jump PB, pent score PB of 2151. Lea Valley Open

Various Young Athletes from Thurrock Harriers took part in the Lee Valley Open this Saturday. Endurance runners took to the track for the open, U13g Demi Eves not only came 1st in her race she brought home a PB in the 800m in a time of 2.34.11s. Scarlett Carter ran in the  70m hurdles race coming 3rd with a PB time of 17.59s. U15g Hayley Instance ran in the 800m mixed with the senior woman and ran very well gaining a new PB time 2.24.99s. Sarah Blockley ran a SB in her 800m in a time of 2.42.85s. U17w Lucie Ball also ran the 800m in a SB time of 2.39.97s. U17m William Adeyeye also ran well on the day, gaining a PB in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.17s and a SB time of 11.54s in the 100m’s, William is still recovering from injury and did well despite this. U17w Kendrea Nwaelene gained a SB in the 100m with a time of 12.90s, she also ran the 200m in a time of 26.88s. Lea Valley Minithon 27th February

This weekend many young athletes took part in the Minithon at Lee Valley, bringing home a large haul of medals, see results below. Yr5 Boys – (all took home bronze medals!)
