EYAL Success – June 2016

There was a good turn out for the third Eastern Youth Athletics League at Peterborough last Sunday, where Thurrock came a respectable third place with 618 points, a fantastic achievement despite a big shortage of athletes and tough competition from big clubs such as Nene Valley and Havering. Thurrock competed in the glorious sunshine against Nene Valley Harriers, Havering, Peterborough, Biggleswade, Woodford Green and Luton. The U17m came 1st overall in their age group, the U15g came 2nd, the U17w ranked third and the U13g, U13b and U15b came fourth overall. Many of the young athletes took part in track & field events that they enjoy, as well as having a go at events they have never tried before, some athletes completed in a higher age group and most surprised themselves and gained new PBs as well as gaining valuable points for the team and it was well worth it. The Coaches’ and Committee members would like to say a Big thankyou to all of the athletes that took part and their friends/family who travelled out to support and encourage the athletes on the day. Thurrock hopes the support continues throughout the season and are looking forward to the next league match which is in July at Sandy.
