Welcome to the new website of Thurrock Harriers Athletics Club.

What a great start!

My thanks go to the committee members, in particular Richard Amery, for setting up the new website and agreeing to keep it updated. Keep looking to find out important information you will need as a club member, parent or volunteer. You will find dates of competitions, news of events and performances and club developments. The site will adapt as we use it. If you have any feedback please contact us at by email via the website, or tell one of us at the track.

News update:

The summer season ended well with our EYAL team placing 4th in the Plate Final at Thurrock. Coaches were impressed with the commitment from athletes and parents and hope this continues next season. Parents, remember you are our future coaches and officials, so please get involved and find out about courses to get you started. See Jon Metcalf, Coaching Secretary for details. He is present (usually running round the track) on training nights.

Seniors have done well despite the women’s team being very small. The seniors finished mid – table and remain in the same division of the Southern League.

The Mel Batty 10 took place in August with over 150 entries. Next year it will be merged with the Horndon 10k and run during the Horndon Feast and Fayre in June.

The Cross country season is well under way. For the first time in years, we are fielding strong teams in every age group. It is heart warming to see so many Thurrock vests showing in the higher places in the Essex League, the first at our home fixture at One Tree Hill, and young Thurrock Harriers faces storming to victory in the Thurrock Schools events at Blackshots in November. On that note, especially well done to Demi, Hayley, Amber, Harry and Taylor, all winning gold.

Last weekend saw Gemma Holloway ploughing through the difficult conditions in Liverpool at the Euro Cross Challenge to place 12th. It won’t be long before we see Gemma wearing the England colours.

Indoors, young athletes are taking part in Sports Hall competitions and have done a minithon at Lee Valley. It appears we have some very promising athletes – Daniel Oguntuga winning all of his events. See the news page for more details. The next events are on 12th December: Minithon at Lee Valley and Essex Sports Hall Final at Chelmsford.

Don’t forget the Young Athletes’ Christmas Party and Awards night on 21st December. Tickets £11 for under 16s from Cathy James or Karl Sumun. Over 16 and adults $12.50 each.

Lastly, two items of exciting news to tell you about:

We are almost there with our Clubmark application. We hope to be receiving it in the New Year. We are applying for a grant to clear the mound in the car park and resurface the area. It will make parking easier and give us a bit more space, while keeping our neighbours happy.

If you get a new pair of spikes for Christmas, bring your old ones if they are still in good condition to the track. Someone else will be grateful for them.

Happy Christmas and New Year to you all.
