At the Danny Mullane open at Chelmsford this weekend, a handful of Thurrock Harriers athletes braved the freezing wind and rain to compete in the first outdoor Open of the season.

Jessica Whitbread ran her first 100m’s as an under 17 woman, gaining a seasons best time of 14.69s against a headwind of -2.7, in the long jump she jumped another seasons best placing her 2nd in the competition with a jump of 4.90m and finally Jessica placed 1st in the discus for her age group and 3rd overall for senior women section with a PB throw of 21.84m.

Under 15 girl, Megan Smith achieved a PB in hammer with a winning throw of 21.06m, landing her 1st place in the competition, the wind was a problem throughout the day getting worse in the afternoon. Megan threw 14.70m in the discus and 16.17m in the javelin which was a seasons best throw for Megan.

Under 17 woman, Kendrea Nwaelene ran in the 100m coming first in her race with a Seasons best run of 13.46s with a head wind of -2.0. In the 200m she placed 2nd with a time of 26.99s.

Under 11 girl, Lily smith also braved the treacherous weather and competed for the first time ever at an outdoor competition and jumped a PB in the long jump with a jump of 2.14m.

Well done to all the athletes that took part, everyone at Thurrock harriers are very proud of you all.
