At the Essex Cross Country Relays held at Hockley on Saturday Thurrock returned with 2 sets of medals.
The mixed senior team took a well deserved Silver. All 4 team members excelled on the 3 mile course – all of them from the under 20 age group.
Sam Smith (16.03), Brooke Mensah (20.28), Oliver Mann (16.08) and Gemma Holloway (15.48) saw them finish just 37 seconds behind winners, Orion Harriers. Gemma’s time was the fastest female time in the event.
The under 15 boys took bronze. Harry Parker (9.19), Ben Prior (9.18) and Leon Wheeler (8.48) battled hard for the medals. In the same age group the B team were 8th. Henri Willett (10.04), Jamie Mack (9.48) and Finlay Lowe (9.47) were in that team. Again Leon’s time was the fastest in this section.
The senior women’s team were a respectable 10th in the 28 teams to finish. Toni Radley (19.23), Victoria Peacock (20.13) and Sue Beck (20.39) can all feel pleased with their efforts especially newcomer Sue.
It was good to see the senior men well represented. They fielded two teams that finished 15th and 27th in the 38 teams that finished. Fastest in the A team (Anthony Tobin, Nick Trencher, Don Lawless and John Green) was Nick Trencher with 17.27 and fastest B team (Gary Rowlatt, Paul Mitchell, Gary Cahill & Richard Amery) runner was Gary Cahill senior with 18.45.
The under 17 girls unluckily were forced to field an under 15 in their team. They finished 2nd but their under age runner meant the team could only finish unofficially. Hayley Instance (9.57), Lucie Ball (11.27) and Amber Pullinger (9.43) made up that team.
The under 17 men were an encouraging 6th. Joe Logan (9.07), Sarab Dhillon (9.18) and Jack Exley (9.24) were the good performances from that squad.
The under 13 girls squad were 13th. Hannah Peacock (11.27), Kennedy Beardwell (13.11), Demi Eves (13.46) made up that team.
The under 13 boys team were 8th. Dylan Harrod (10.03), Noah Trencher (11.38) and Sonny Vehit (11.00) provided the excellent performances in that team.
Summing up it was good to see the Club represented in all age groups – this bodes well for the forthcoming Winter season.
