Despite the heavy morning rain on Saturday 4th Nov, the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of our Thurrock Harrier athletes at Writtle for the 3rd round of the Essex XC League.
A strong turnout by our athletes ensured excellent results in the muddy conditions. In the U13 Girls and Boys race Hollie Matthews was 26th, and Alfie Bumstead in 49th, both continue to improve. For the U17 Men we had Asa Hicks and Lucas Willett, with both finishing strongly in 28th and 39th respectively. With the sun finally coming out, next were our Snr Women’s squad.
Finishing in her best position so far this season, Kathryn Spring worked through the field finishing in 13th. In fact all of our snr ladies improved their seasons’ positions with Brooke Mensah 59th, Jodie Farrell 66th, Gosia Baluka 76th, Faye Scott 131st and Gloria Bullen 154th. (there were 174 finishers).

In the Snr Men’s race, despite two of our key athletes missing, our strength in depth ensured an excellent 5th overall in the team positions.Again leading the team home, Sarab Dhillon battled through in an excellent 11th. His younger brother, Chander, was next across the line in 27th closely followed by Harvey Green in 29th. Making up the scoring 6 runners for the team result were then Ifeoluwa Adebusoye 50th, Scott Thrush 66th and Alec Finch 67th. Our strong squad then included David Beatty 119th, Scott Rice 138th, Olatunde Phillips Akerele 157th, Kamil Tyrala 207th, Jon Metcalf 208th, John O’Shea 236th and Chris Applegate 244th.
