2017 Jan Winner - Theo Adesina - Aged 15 Theo is currently the no1 UK Champion for his age group in Pentathlon, is no1 National Sportshall Champion and has completed internationally. However he is humble with his talent and has an amazing positive attitude towards his discipline and peers. He always helps and supports both younger and older athletes, he is an inspiration to all. Theo is hoping that having the pole will help him become the Uk’s No 1 Heptathlon Champion.

March 2017 Winner - Megan Smith - Aged 15 Megan is a lovely, kind and thoughtful young lady. She currently volunteers her time helping the U11 athletes, then goes to work hard on her own training. She continues to be a good role model and always has a smile. Megan regularly represents the club, taking part in disciplines out of her comfort zone just to do her best for the club. Megan’s favourite discipline is throws and has a very positive outlook no matter what the result, she always reflects on her performance. Feedback from peers includes- "She is always there early for the U11 session, helps out a lot and always has a smile" "She helps everyone and works very hard" "she is committed to athletics and a good role model" "she is a good thrower and is committed to athletics" "she is very committed and always tries her best" "Megan is hard working, caring and enthusiastic, I believe she should win as she works hard helping the track where needed" "Megan works really hard" "She is very helpful with the younger children" After her nomination, Megan decided that she would like to spend her award on the Throws department. She asked for the club to use the money to purchase special trolleys to hold and transport throw equipment. Megan felt that it would help her feel more of a specialist athlete during home competitions and give her more of a professional approach when completing.

May 2017 Winner - Ruby Bridger - Aged 14 Ruby is a wonderful athlete who always has a smile. She is well liked by her peers and coaches, she offers support and advice to younger athletes and is a very positive role model. Ruby regularly represents the club, has competed nationally and is currently ranking high in various disciplines. Every competition so far this year, has led to Ruby gaining great Personal bests and currently holds the club record for Hurdles. Feedback from her nomination slips quote the following; "She is a role model in all events" "Very great at what she does" "She is such a kind person and she helped on my first competition when I was nervous. She helped me to calm down" "She is really determined and always tries hard" "She is an inspiration to others and is always helping others, always there when you need her" "I believe she is a capable and wonderful athlete with a smile on her face all the time" "She is always helpful and helps the younger ones and she’s so good at what she does" "She is good and kind" After her nomination, Ruby decided that she would like to be inspired by the world’s best athletes by having the chance watching them at the Anniversary Games at the Olympic stadium in July. Using her award this way will give other athletes the opportunity to go and be inspired too, helping with the Clubs team ethos.

June 2017 Winner - Charlie Splarn - Aged 17 Charlie is one of our recently training Coaching assistants, as well as a U20 athlete that represents the club. He currently coaches U11’s before his own training sessions once a week. Charlie is a well thought off, likable young man, who always has a smile. Some feedback from his nomination slips quote the following; "He is a very good influence on younger athletes and does his best in every athletic session" "He helps me in my events and he is a role model to me. I aspire to be like him" "He is very helpful and is an inspiration to everyone" "He try’s his best in every season" "He is a role model and encourages me to do well" After his nomination, Charlie has decided that he would like to use his award to take himself and some other athletes to the Anniversary Games at the Olympic stadium in July. Using his award this way, will give other athletes the opportunity to go and be inspired by world athletes such as Usain Bolt and Degrasse.

September 2017 Winner - Jessica Whitbread - Aged 16 Jessica is one of our recently trained Coaching assistants, as well as a U17 athlete that represents the club. She regularly assists with coaching U11’s before her own training sessions once a week. Jessica has also volunteered her time by helping out at various Sportshall competitions and at hire events held at the track. Jessica is a likeable young lady, who often steps out of her comfort zone taking part in events in order to represent the club in both the Youth and Senior leagues. She is a positive role model to the younger athletes. She commits her time to helping at the track and has recently become an assistant coach for the club, helping out with the Under 11 group once a week. Some feedback from her nomination slips quote the following: - "She works really hard and attends training regularly. She is a role model to the younger athletes" "She is very kind, also she helps me when I do hurdles" "She is good at everything and she has just become assistant coach" "She is always on top of everything and is now an assistant coach" "She is always nice and friendly to me" "She is an excellent role model, she is nice to others and is an outstanding athlete" Jessica has chosen to use her award money towards a Go Pro, this can be used at various events, as well as training sessions, in order to feedback to athletes where they can improve their technique.

Oct 2017 Winner - Sola Taiwo - Aged 14 Sola hates to miss any training sessions and competitions for the club. She has been the highest Female points earner in the Eastern Young Athletes League for 3 years in a row. She is a credit to the club and her coach and all the other athletes are glad she is part of the team. She always has a smile, is a great role model for the younger athletes and can be relied upon when needed. comments form her peers include - -“she has worked really hard through the last season, she is always willing to help everyone and is just a good role model in general” “she is very good at Pentathlon and hurdles, she is a great athlete” “she gives me good advice when I need it and helps me” “for her dedication to her sport and the love she shows to others” “she is always friendly and kind to me and is a good athlete” “the reason I have chosen to nominate sola is because of her hard work and determination towards athletics throughout this years outdoor season, she has shown improvement and good work, she really deserves it”. Sola would like to use her award to buy specialist equipment (Plyometric Jump boxes) for the club, to help her and other athletes improve their technique in track and field.
